Creating a brighter future of happiness for customers, society, and employees
Ayumi Yokoyama
Senior Manager of the Diversity and Inclusion Promotion Department (Vice Chairperson of the Social Improvement Subcommittee)
Diversity and inclusion (D&I) is the first step of innovation and communication
Where everyone can be true to themselves and work with peace of mind. Where the growth of an individual is linked to the improvement of social value. These are the sentiments that we value at the Social Improvement Subcommittee. We are aiming to create workplaces where each employee takes charge of developing their own life, and that feel like a second home to our employees so they can demonstrate their strengths with peace of mind. To achieve this, we support diverse workstyles and self-directed career development. These efforts have resulted in a decade of achievements at the Sekisui House Women’s College, where more and more women are demonstrating their leadership skills with confidence. The happiness of customers, society, and employees is the value we create through ESG management, and we will continue to carefully nurture this value while creating new forms of happiness.
Diversity and inclusion (D&I) is essential in the practice of innovation and communication that the Sekisui House Group values. This approach allows us to hear everyone’s views on an even ground, irrespective of differences in gender, age, nationality, or the presence/absence of disabilities, and regardless of varying values and experiences, to stimulate communication and generate new ideas and solutions. This way of thinking also underpins our efforts to cultivate an organizational culture that respects individuality and places emphasis on dialogue between employees, in which everyone can freely express their views with peace of mind and each person’s opinion is accepted with sincerity. We are also creating an environment that reflects the needs and views of employees, and setting up systems that allow individuals to take on challenges of goals they want to achieve or work in fields they are interested in. These are some of the ways we are raising the value of our human capital, based on employee autonomy and alignment of efforts.
We will move forward with our efforts to build an organization that will expand and leverage autonomy and diversity, where employees are free to discover where they best fit within the company to participate more fully, grow together with their colleagues, and feel a greater sense of happiness.
Creation of social value that continues into the future
Creating an even better future requires review of all social structures, as well as fair and inclusive initiatives. As we work to cultivate a culture that respects diversity and inclusion and promotes social inclusion and the correction of disparities, we will continue to promote diversity and inclusion, eliminate prejudice and discrimination in the recruitment and promotion processes, provide opportunities for all employees to be fairly evaluated, and cultivate an inclusive culture.
The Sekisui House Group has made a declaration on the respect of human rights of all stakeholders that may be impacted in our business activities, including in the supply chain. We are also making efforts to acquire and maintain the trust of customers through the provision of products and services that take into consideration human rights, and by identifying and addressing human rights-related issues in our businesses.
These initiatives are an important step in building a sustainable society, and will require us to work hand in hand with all of our stakeholders. Holding fast to these sentiments, the Sekisui House Group will advance social improvement initiatives, and positively take on the challenge of creating sustainable social value by contributing to the earth and society.
