CASE 3
Fumiko Kuroki
Joined in 2004
Ms. Kuroki has been developing her career in sales administration for detached homes. After returning to work in February 2013 from childcare leave for the birth of her second child, she was appointed as the first female Sales Manager in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Ms. Kuroki was transferred to her current workplace (Akabane Exhibition Hall) in November 2018. She is currently working as a Sales Manager, while raising two young children. Ms. Kuroki is a third-year student of the Sekisui House Women’s College.
I’ve never forgotten what I learnt from concluding my first customer contract; it has shaped my career in sales administration.
There are eight sales staff in the team at the Akabane Exhibition Hall, where I currently work as Sales Manager. There are three women, including me, and two of us a balancing work with raising two young children. Each member has their own lifestyle and values, and this diversity is a source of stimulus and support for everyone, as we work together as a team to achieve results. The experience of concluding my first customer contract is what shaped my career in sales administration. The customer had a really wide range of requests for their home - there were even different opinions about it in the family. I learnt the importance of never saying “we cannot do that” to the customer, even for requests that would be quite difficult to realize. What’s important is working together with the customer to find ways to make meet their requests. I also realized that considering things from the customer’s perspective is the only way to really see and understand what they want. Working as a Sales Manager now, I feel motivated when I can see how my younger team members are growing through their work and helping to conclude contracts, and in the positive customer feedback I receive about them. I’ve also noticed how doing my daily housework and raising my children also provide hints for making better proposals to our customers. I hope to keep having a fulfilling work and home life, and be a role model for other women in sales administration.
