Balancing Work and Childcare, Nursing Care, or Medical Treatment

It’s not uncommon to have to deal with personal and family issues, even as you continue to work. At Sekisui House, we understand this. That’s why we have enhanced our policies to support a work-life balance, so our employees can take leave for childcare, nursing care or medical treatment with the peace of mind that it won’t impact their career progress. We are working to create and implement support mechanisms in all workplaces that will help superiors, colleagues and other staff develop a deeper understanding of each person’s situation, and that don’t just rely on an individual’s efforts and ideas to achieve a work-life balance.

Forums on successfully balancing work and childrearing

The Work-life Management Guide for Parent is also distributed to superiors

In 2014, Sekisui House compiled the “Work-life Management Guide for Parent.” It is filled with useful information, such as guidance on how to talk with your superior before and after taking childcare leave and workstyle options for once you return to work. Since 2015, the Sekisui House Group has been holding an annual forum for male and female employees who are raising young children, and for their partners and superiors as well.
The forum held in June 2020 was attended by 3,130 people nationwide including Sekisui House male and female employees with young children, and their superiors. Each group of participants were able to nominate a preferred time to participate in this virtual forum, which consisted of lectures streamed online and group discussions held via the internet. Participants for the group discussions were randomly selected nationwide from working parents at Sekisui House and their superiors. Even though many of the participants were meeting for the first time, they were still able to connect and have lively discussions about the common theme of raising young children while working.

Balancing Work and Childcare, Nursing Care, or Medical Treatment

More and more employees want to keep on working in a way that lets them balance their work with childcare, nursing care, or medical treatment, by making use of the support systems and programs that they and their family need now and in the future. Superiors and colleagues are also becoming increasingly more understanding and cooperative of each person’s situation.
