Flexible Work Styles / Working From Home Feedback

Sachiko Irie CS Promoting Department

I’m currently raising my children, while working using a combination of shorter working hours, full-time work, and working from home. Working from home is appealing, because I can use the two hours it takes me to commute to and from work to get more work done. Thanks to the PC the company has lent me, I am able to do at home the work I usually do at the office. Raising children places restrictions on my time, and so I was also a bit worried about how I would balance work with being a mother; but I have been able to manage—also because of the support I’ve received from my colleagues—and I was promoted to Section Manager in April 2019. I’m happy if I can be a role model to my junior colleagues who are worried about balancing raising children with work.

Sekisui House has previously allowed working from home for those employees engaged in childcare or nursing care, as well as those employees who have difficulty in commuting due to pregnancy, injury or sickness, disability, or other such reasons. However, with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we have applied this system in a more flexible way, allowing anyone to utilize it for any reason. Going forward, we will continue to promote a unique Sekisui House Group style of “smart work” that has both happiness and sense of value to the work, and which allows employees to work unrestricted by location or time by utilizing ICT, changes in work environment, and the optimization of systems, and thereby not only improves productivity but encourages lively innovation and communication on a level not hitherto dreamed of.
